A Message from the Board - 2021

LAST UPDATED January, 2021

In a historic week in a historic year we wish all our members the best of luck for 2021. 2020 was a year of challenge and loss for our community here in the U.S. and for our families and friends in Ireland.

This past Christmas was very different, usually a time where many of us travel to reunite with family and friends in Ireland we found ourselves restricted by the Pandemic. Holiday events were on Zoom instead of at home by the fire with a hot toddy and a selection box. Thankfully we have a history of resilience and innovation and we made the best of things and created new ways to enjoy our familiar traditions.

2020 was definitely different at the INBA. In March we moved our usual in person events to virtual. The regular monthly first Thursday became a virtual party with members moving to break out rooms to chat in smaller groups and a Trivia Night and other games adding to the fun. Highlights of our 2020 events included Fiona McEntee’s very informative Immigration discussion. Continuing our lunchtime learning series we hosted a lively discussion about Careers where Zen Desk Vice President Fidelma Butler and Pinnacle HR Director Wendy Chin shared their insights. In October Entrepreneur and author Barry O’Reilly shared his ideas around unlearning and it’s benefits to the INBA. In November we hosted a very timely discussion on the topic of Digital Health. The INBA in partnership with Focus Academy hosted industry leaders Alison Darcy of Woebot Labs, Conor Heneghan of Fitbit, and Trina Histon of Kaiser Permanente’s Care Management Institute. Kate Gunning of Focus Academy moderated the event. We look forward to hearing more from these experts in 2021. December saw an entertaining close to the year for the INBA with a very distinctive Holiday Party where we continued our year of learning. DragTaste taught everyone how to make Christmas Sangria.

This coming year we are planning virtual events for the next few months and are hoping to move to in person outdoor events when conditions permit.

Don’t worry if you missed any of our past events most are available online either on our website or on Facebook. Thanks to many hours of work from our hard working website team led by Ashlinn Marron we have a new and improved website. Please take a look and let us know if you have feedback. We realise this is a work in progress and are glad to have suggestions.

In the coming months keep a lookout for more event announcements. Please feel free to message the INBA board if you have any ideas that you would like to see featured. We are very fortunate to have such a talented and well connected network of members and we wish you luck as you navigate the new ways of doing business and networking in 2021.

All the best from your friends and colleagues at the Irish Network of the Bay Area
